Sending unit test

hi guys,i gotta a question about my cell and stock sending unit,i put my sending unit in the cell and put some fuel to try it out,but it didnt work,the su makes this click noise,but the gauge seens to work,it shows the fuel i put in the tank,its there a way to test the pump?
