Default Adding a Factory Alarm to a 2008 RAM???

I have the 08 RAM that has remote key locks and panic button on the FOB. I know for sure the truck doesn't have the factory alarm installed. The kits I see advertised are for ealier models apparantly the 2008 RAM is different.

Can the factory alarm be added to a 08 RAM ?

Yes, but the dealer will have to scan the ECU and re-program it to accept the Mopar alarm. Also, the factory alarm requires new key fobs for the start button and the range of the factory remotes is terrible. Not to mention the price is outrageous and you can get a 2-way paging alarm/remote start aftermarket installed for the same price. My remot has 1mile range. Factory is like 100ft.

Like dirty said aftermarket alarms are far better. I had the viper and a python paging system in the past...both were good alarms. But like any aftermarket stuff and the factory warranty, you'll be giving the dealer another BS excuse to weasel out of warranty work.

Is remote start required for the factory alarm? My original fob's won't work with the alarm?

plus it is a lot of the times a pain in the but if you ever have to replace or disconnect the battery after putting the factory one in cross your fingers and pray you don't have to get the ecu re programed again or you will experience the most annoying thing ever.

Dealer can't void anything for an aftermarket alarm. That was the "excuse" when they first came out, but they are so popular, they don't even try to now! As a matter of fact, all 3 dealerships that I worked for all sent out the new cars to stereo shops and had aftermarket remote starters put on the cars if the customer requested. My wife and I even looked at a brand new Hyundai and I didn't want it because the dealership already had an aftermarket alarm installed and I didn't want that specific one.

My alarm has a lifetime warranty which far exceeds anything the dealer will give plus mine will do everything except wipe my ***!
