Default Tranny cooler

How hard is it to add a tranny cooler to a 2006 1500 with 5.7L hemi? I do some towing and was thinking about adding one. Is it something a medium level do it yourself person do at home?

Thanks

How many rows does your tranny cooler have on now? Mine came with 8-9 rows and I updgraded mine to a oem 12 row. There is also a oem 24 row, here are the part numbers

55056472AA 12 row
52029089AB 24 row

The task itself is not hard to do, it took me about 30-45 minutes. The only special tool that I used was a oil cooler line removal tool (3/8th I believe), and other than that just your basic socket and/or wrench (13mm that I used).

Here is how I did mine on my 2002. Im sure other members have done theirs different but this how I did mine with no problem.

Remove the tranny cooler lines with a oil cooler line removal tool.

Then unscrew the one bolt holding the tranny cooler with a 13mm wrench since the space you have to work between is small and will have a hard time with a rachet. Since mine was a 8 row cooler I pulled it out without a problem. If you have a 12 row and upgrading to a 24 row chances are you are going to have to remove the radiator since you will have no room to pull out the tranny cooler without damaging the old cooler and the new one. But for me upgrading from a 8 to a 12 row I just unbolted the radiator and held it back while my girlfriend slid in the 12 row.

Reconnect the cooler lines and bolt up everything and you will be good to go.
