OK its time I got a CAI. I would rather build one than pay $300 for one. I have a 04 1500 4x4 with a HEMI. I need any and all info you can give me about building a CAI. I need pics, list of materials, and prices. I need to know what size of tubing, size of the filter (K&N preferably), and how to remove the HEMI hat. I am moderately capable at mechanical stuff, butt I could use any info you can give me. Please and Thank you.

I agree, he did a fantastic job on that home-made CAI. The only change I would make, and I own a K&N and have always sworn by their filters, is I'd go with a good oil-less filter. Technology is such that I think the future is in the oil-less designs and these you can clean with a shop vac or compressed air. No more oiling, so no more chance of fouling sensors if you don't re-charge them just right.
Tests I've seen on the better ones such as True Flow's reticulated foam filter, shows filtration and flow after 10k miles of heavy off-road use to be on par with a new K&N.
Just food for thought...

acan a mod put a few of these as a sticky. one for cai's, one for a diy cai. everyday it seems like i'm reading something on which ones the best, how can i make one, can i fit this size tire on my truck, leveling kits, and superchips. its sticky time. not to mention then the first thing we all see is the stickys on the top, so its easy to find. i know i struggled finding info on a few things, and asked some of the same questions.

It's in the works. I am going to be home for a month minimum after my mom has surgery this upcoming week. It was talked about before Thanksgiving among the moderators and administrators that I'd redo the sticky up top for "most commonly discussed topics" into a full "FAQ" section, with the help from a few others.
Will have sub topics under that section broken down by category such as CAI, Tires & Wheels, Lift Kits, etc., etc., etc.
Have a little patience, it'll take some time to complete and get right, but it's coming...

the 4.7 and 5.7 are pretty much the same CAI wise, the hemi hat comes off fairly easy..just unplug the AIT sensor on the bottom right and 4 bolts and its off....most of the other stuff is just preference, filter location n such..i think he built his for about 40 bucks..and i +1 the oiless filter i have a K&N too and i would like to switch over
