How long are Flowmaster Mufflers good for?
Hey all, I hope that it isn't my hearing going but I got back last month from the catpan after being gone for 15 months ( I did have a 18 day R & R) and I've been driving a lot more because both the wife and kid have jobs to get to but we only had the one vehicle for about 2 weeks so I noticed that there seems to be a drone louder than usual from the Flowmaster Super 40 that I put on back in March 06. How long should the muffler last I've put on about 35,000 miles on the truck since the Flowmaster switch. We don't have the snow or salt or bad weather problems here in GA like others up north and all. Is this normal for it to sound louder? Or should I see about putting in some sound deadener in the cab? I love the sound of it. It isn't a welded up system I just used the adapters and u-bolt set up with the dual exhaust I put on. Is that the problem, everything is tight under there.
Thanks,H-

mufflers last years. but yes, the sound actually gets louder after a few months. i didnt believe it myself but they "break in" or something of the sort.
p.s. you bought a super 40, a loud muffler.

Perhaps you are just getting used to the sound of it again. It's possible to be getting louder breaking in. My brother has put several thousand miles (possibly over 30,000) on his 40 series, he's gone through mud, salt, snow, sand, and all that good stuff. Still working fine, no problems.
It shouldn't have gotten louder...it's a chamber muffler so there's no packing like a straight-through muffler. So either you just forgot how loud it was while you were gone or the inside has rusted....bang on it and listen for rattling.
