Default New ram owner with hopefully small problems

Hi. I just bought a 2004 ram 1500 quad cab 4 X 4 with the 4.7. I really like these trucks but have found a couple of problems in the two days i have owned it. First my intermittent wipers work fine, then they keep going when on intermittent, then they didn't work on intermittent. I shut them off for awhile and then they work fine again. I searched here but don't seem to find any definite answers. Also tonight i went to the store and when i left i took off pretty fast and my abs light came on and then maybe 5 seconds later my brake light came on. Just wondering what you think. Brakes seem to be working fine. Truck has 72000 kms or about 45000 miles on it. I have a one month or 1700 km warranty on everything, and the powertrain warranty is good until april 21, 2011 or 115000 kms. Only problem with the one month warranty is that the garage i bought it from is about 800 kms away. I will put some pics of the truck up when i get a chance. Hopefully i can get some ideas before i take it to the dealer and then deal with the garage i bought it from. Thanks in advance.

well sounds like your brake fluid is low... maybe check for leaks and/or fill up your brake fluid reservoir. as for the wipers.... welll.. dunno..bad switch??

the wiper issue is fairly common from what i've noticed...i have/had this issue in both of my trucks...in my 04 the dealer replaced the wiper assembly, FCM, PCM and never did fix it...i told em to replace the switch (which they didnt) so i replaced it and it fixed that issue....haven't gotten around to doin in my other one....as for the abs light, i'd try checkin fluid level and go from there

I checked the brake fluid and it is full. The brakes seem to work fine. I haven't tried it yet this morning to see if the lights are still on. I was thinking that for the wiper issue that it could be the wiper switch. hemiyellow, the wheels with summer tires that came with my truck are the same as the ones on your 4 x 4. I am going to probably put it in the garage tomorrow and melt some ice off of it and take a quick look before i take it to the dealer. It was -34 celsuis here this morning. Thanks and hopefully i will hear a few more replys.

im not sure if the 02-05 ram brake lines routing are the same as my 06 but....
i had my abs brake light come on last summer and the fluid was full too. when i looked closer into eveyrhting i had a small hole in the short brake line that goes from the abs sensor to the distribution block on the frame on the driver side. i noticed the way the brake line was routed it would hit the firewall and rubbed and rubbed till small hole occured then it corroded. i had the light one for about a week or so before i spotted the problem. fixed the line, bled the brakes, reset pcm and the light went off and stayed off.

Well its funny this afternoon when i left with the truck, both the abs and brake lights are not on. I went for a little drive and they never did come back on. I read something in the manuel about if you take of really fast the light can come on and stay on for awhile, i guess from loss of traction. Not sure but hopefully it stays off. Thanks.

you have an air bubble in your brake lines. common problem just bleed them. it will go away.

Just for piece of mind on the ABS, go to a AutoZone or similar outlet that will scan your truck for free. Ask them to check pending codes. Pending codes are those that the computer sees a deviation, but is still within tolerances.

I have an the same year and have about 55,000 miles and the only repairs I have had was the PS hose replaced at 36,000(warranty), the power steering cooler at 53,000 (rusted through at the bottom corner, pass side) and the 4WD indicator switch just last week.

Good luck with your new ride

The ABS light might be a loose ABS sensor - that would cause the ABS and brake lights to come on. When you took off fast, it could have caused the connection to come loose.
