285 or 305's on 20" wheels

I would like to see 285's or 305's on the stock 2006 and up 1500 Ram trucks. I am going to be buying so new tires soon and wanted to see what size woud look good on my truck. It has the Rough Country 2.5" lift on it and I am going to add a Body lift for now if I can find one. So lets see some pics

Thanks Matt

since you already got that lift on your truck, i would go with the 305's....i got 2 pics i can show ya....but my truck is lowered so it's obviously gonna look different but i have a pic of my 20" with 295/55 on it and another pic of my 22" with 305/45 on it

Well I was leaning toward the 305's but like having some room between thr tire and fenderwell ya know. My 2000 Cummins is leveled and sitting on 285's and looks good but I know it's a 3/4 ton truck.

You do realize that 305 is the width and not the sidewall height right? Your talking about it like it's the height. 305/50/20 is 32" and 305/55/20 is 33.25" tall. Stock is 33"

285/65/20 BFG All-terrain

I have the 285/65/20 which is 34.8" x 11.5" tire. BFG All terrain is the only tire in a 285 series. In my opinion these tire are over priced and not worth the $370.00 a pop. I can get a 35" tire on my truck, but am concerned about the 12.5" width. I really don't want to use the spacers that are out there so I have been looking at the mastercraft courser ct 275/60/20 it is a bit smaller at 33", but is a cross between the all terrain and the mud terrain. $850.00 for mount, balance, and alignment.
I am installing the 2.5" torsion keys in the front and the 2" blocks in the back this wednesday. I just joined tonight so I don't have many pics uploaded yet. Hope it helps!!!

305/50/20 looks fine on a stock truck but with a lift they'd look too skinny. Anything taller than 305/55/20 would have me looking for a re-gear too because of the power loss.

As mine sits, the 32 inch diameter gives better effective gearing than stock and I don't care that I lost 1/2 inch of height.

Stock is 33", you lost 1". Going to a 305/55/20 is only .25" more than stock. Nothing even noticeable! Barely noticeable by computer readings.
You losing 1", I can promise your seat of the pnats has not changed at all! That's like saying you went from 3:92 gears to 4:03 gears and noticed a world of difference. Maybe a slight change in the torque curve on a dyno chart, but certainly nothing drastic as for the seat of the pants. 1/2" on each side of the rubber is a noticeable diff. as far as looks and I think would look too small. The stock tires are already on the verge of being low profile for my standards on a truck.

Re-gearing for a taller tire should only be done if you are jumping up considerable. Say, from a 33" to a 35" or 36". Then you may experience a slight change in gearing.

id go with 315s w/ spacers. if you got the level go with 35x12.5s ofr even 35 x 13.5s with adapters.
