ram is monkey biting in 4x4

My dodge ram 02 has started monkey biting in 4x4. Much worse than normal. In 2x4 it turns fine but in 4x4 it bites and grinds with any turning of the wheel? Any thoughts?

I had simular issues - turned out it was front drive shaft u-joints on the cardon joint. They made no noise it just bit and pulled the wheel like crazy.
