Question Underdrive Pulleys

Just wondering if anyone has tried a set of underdrive pulleys on a 4.7 or any motor for that matter. Happened to come across a Crank Pulley/Balancer from ASP racing claiming 8HP and 27+lb/ft of torque.

Seems like a pretty substantial gain for just a pulley and I was wondering what everyones experience was with them and if any one had used the ASP pulleys yet. Let us know

I was looking into that exact same mod, If you can somehow email Nick aka AIRRAM; hes in Balad right now, he might be able to get back to you when he checks his email; hes the only guy I know that has it on his 4.7L. Let me know how it turns out because I was interested in getting it. Only problem is my battery gauge fluctuates with my system now and I dont want to add to the headlight dimming problem when I roll up or down the window or turn on the AC or heat...

Here is a link to a thread where somebody talks about it

He likes it and I believe he got one from troyer performance. I've been looking at the pulley, but it's at the end of my list. I'm gonna do a fastman TB, headers, exhaust, then maybe the underdrive pulley from ASP.

Default Underdrive Pulleys

I'll try AirRam. He's been good about returning my e-mails in the past so I'll let you know.

Have you checked your alternator? Had the same issue shortly after I got my truck so I took it back to the dealer and had a bad ground. Haven't had any issues since.

I had one on my 4.7 for a while. I liked it, but it did have a slight drawback. when sitting at idle power from the altenater dropped off. If the weather was bad and you had everything on and you where sitting at a red light the power would drop off enough to set off the low voltage light. Power would come right back up as soon as you started to move or increased the engines RPM. I enjoyed it for a while, but when I installed the E-fan I had to put the old balancer back on. Hope this helps

Thumbs up

I have a 3.7 and I put a Troyer Performance pulley on mine. I love the results. No problems to date and that has been some time now. My truck performs much better than before. The results are worth the money spent on the part. Changing it out is not that bad either. Check out my thread in the V6 section.

I say go for it!!!!!!

Do you have an e-fan? I want to put one in, but I'm not going to do the pulley if it draws the alternator down that far. Think the e-fan is a better mod.

You can get an overdrive pulley for the alternator to speed it up so you don't loose the charging power at idle. Try Moe's or AIRRAM.

I wouldn't bother. Loss of charging ability and loss of maximum coolant flow so I will take a pass. Put in an efan instead. Kill two birds with one stone.
