you vehicle will still run fine with a bad alternator. at least it did on mine. IT could also be a poor pulley or the power steeting pump.

it cant be the power steering pump cause he said it gets louder when he gets on the gas, same thing happened to mine, the alternatore could be ready to die...and if it did hed be in trouble.

true ture, sounds like your alteranator is about to fail But still could one of you pulleys. Put your ear up to them, have your buddy or wife step on the gas.

I had a whining noise in mine, come to find out after changing the alternator, the tentioner pully it was the Idler pulley. So if I was to give advice I would say start there. They are pretty cheap and not hard to replace. Oh... by the way...the rear bearing in my alternator was going out but it was the Idler pulley making the loudest noise.

I would check the alternator, however an alternator can make the noise, while it is still OK, if there is a heavy electrical load, thus you may want to check your battery too. One of my German made cars had exactly same "noise symptoms", but turned out that my battery was gone (instead of alternator what I was worried about).
