From the pics, don't look like they will total it, but that looks like about 5-6k worth repairs to me. From the looks it dont look like the frame was nicked, so highly doubtful that they would have to total it.

I would actually talk to the ins adjuster though, since at least 2 rims (that I saw) would have to be replaced, that for safety reasons since the smaller unknown damages that you should get a whole new set (all 4) of tires and rims. Since you slid there could be other damages to these that even they may over look, I would also push for them to REPLACE the doors entirely, not just panel repair. Cause from the degree of impact you would run into seal problems down the road if they just replaced panels rather than the whole door.

I am happy that the wife is ok, that is a blessing in itself.

That being said, if something more does come out of this, as far as her injuries, a dollar or two might be coming this way. Hopefully though, the soreness will wear off, and we'll just have to worry about fixing the truck, or replacing it, no other "lawsuit" involved......
That is how my accident pains started "tightening up" I drove myself to the hospital and it was dismissed as inflammation of the muscles - like a sprain... but here I am sitting 14 months later almost after the accident with rods in my back after a disc being torn and nerve damage. If it does not go away I would have your wife checked out, not to scare you or anything but MRI on her back if it don't go away, that is the only way they found out about the extent of my "seat belt" injuries.

Just be very cautious about her, I was hit on the drivers side as well... those are the kinds of accidents to me most cautious about to begin with.

Ouch that sucks...good thing your wife was in a SUV. I didn't read the whole thread but make sure they check the straightness of the frame...if you want it totaled that would be your ticket.

Hey hey hey........

once again, thanks to all for the kind responses and helpful advice.

The wife is gradually getting worse, I really hate to say. She got off work early Monday, only after a couple hours. Went to the doc, they just told her to "give it a week, see if it gets any worse", pffffft. Shoved a couple pills down her throat and booted her out the door. Just gave her muscle relaxers, that arent working too well. Each day its something new bothering her. Started with the pain across the chest/shoulder, probably from the seatbelt. Sun/Mon was her back. Now, yesterday her kneck was killing her.

The ins. adj. has put the damage at around $5600. I havent talked to him/her, so I dont know what all they noticed or missed. They are suggesting we take it to a local Honda dealership to get the repairs done. They are a very reputable place with lifetime warranty on all there work, from what the ins. co. is saying. (I know the shop is reputable, just not sure about the warranty stuff). Once the truck is there, they do another, more thorough, inspection, so thats when Ill jump in and start pointing.

So, thats to my next question...... What questions should I have ready for the bodyshop? What parts do I want? Is there a such thing as "aftermarket" doors and such, or will they all be OEM? When I totalled my mustang, I didnt have to go through all this, they just said "dam, you f&%ked it up huh?" and sent a check. Ya'll think they'll repaint the whole thing, or just that one side? Or even worse, just the parts they replace?

Sorry about the longa$$ post, just wanted to get a little more info going into this along with showing my appreciation for ya'lls concern and help.

Ps. She finally got a rental yesterday, a Toyota Rav4. Although a neat little suv with a lot more room inside than it looks, I swear I could ramp that thing onto the back of my truck

That sucks. Hope your wife is OK. Make sure they check that rear axle when they go over it. That wheel took a hard hit, and I've seen axles bend with alot less damage to the wheel.

This is sounding exactly like my progression on my back after my accident, try 20 mins ice, then 20 mins heat, 30 mins nothing, then repeat the heat and ice one more time, this should help a little bit. I would be more than happy to share some more stuff if you would like me to PM or email it to you.

push for new factory doors, not panel repair, you'll thank me later on this. new seals, new doors, the works on that, they will more than likely paint only the one side and where on the other side it needs it.

Also push for tire inspection since you went 3 lanes over, if there is even a slight indication that you skidding on the tires, push to replace ALL tires. And make sure all the rims are in Excellent conditition, if they arent, push for new rims, and also push for all the rims to match, dont settle for anything less. This is just to start, I will think of more later, Just make sure everything is taken care of and is in the condidtion it was or better.

I wouldnt take it to a Honda dealership if it isnt a Honda, my ins told me to take it to a GMC dealership, I told them to shove it, I took it to a chevy dealership shop and I took it to the best one in the state. Again, dont settle, this wasnt your fault, so you take care of your car.
