Default Never again!!

NEVER AGAIN will I assume that a dealership will go through all the fluids and maint. schedules before they sell something!

I bought MY truck with 93k miles on it..

Not more than three months ago I put new plugs/cap rotor and wires on the truck. Didn't know when it had been done so I thought the only way I would know would be to do it myself. At the time truck had about 98K on it. Good thing I did, cap had corroded electrodes in it. OBVIOUSLY NOT DONE BEFORE I BOUGHT THE TRUCK!!

Today I was out changing the fluid in the transfer case. Manual says it should take about 1.75 qts ATF+4. Pull the plug I get maybe a cup of really brown fluid. WTF...there is no way I can put 7k on the truck and burn through any oil (NO LEAKS EVIDENT, BUT NO OIL TO LEAK) in the transfer case much less turn it brown is there. These a$$&ole$ won't do anything anymore!!

Anyone know if there is any serious damage to the transfer case? Who knows how long it has been that way...
NEVER AGAIN will I buy a vehicle from a dealership without knowing the fluids have been changed (my fault) and never again will I buy a vehicle from that dealer!

Thanks for letting me rant!!

Of course they aren't going to. You'd think it's only sensible to change the fluids, but that does cost them some money, and they can't always pass it off on the buyer, so why change them?
I plan on doing mine soon, and might also get my spark plugs done at the same time. Get it all fresh and new.

The 4wd doesn't make noises and has always worked well so hopefully things are OK.

No reason to expect the dealer to do anything but get it ready to sell. Buying a used vehicle? Unless you can confirm recent service, assume it wasn't done.

i feel the pain, you cant trust the dealers anymore for anything, better off finding a mechanic you can trust to do repairs and honor your warranty.

I went SUV shopping with a female friend some months back. She ended up looking very seriously at a used Grand Cherokee Limited. Even though it was late summer, I tested everything, including the heat and sure enough, there was a blend door issue. I ran a check of the ECC and codes popped up for both blend doors failing. Luckily for her, when I bought my Overland, the blend doors were shot, so I knew to check for it.
This was despite a "60 Point Used Vehicle Certification" on the window which clearly showed the A/C - Heater system as checked and marked off.
I ended up taking her to a Jeep dealership where I know the owners very well and getting her a much better deal anyway in the end.

You can never rely on a dealer to have done routine maintenance prior to a sale. You have to take it upon yourself to check everything.

I looked at a used 01 ctd last year and as I'm crawling under it with a flashlight, I noticed one of the motor mounts was broken! Holy torque batman. The salesman didn't believe me so he crawled underneath, getting his suit and white shirt ruined and then saw it. I told him, "You should have had a sixty-ONE point inspection, I guess." I walked away.

kind of sad you won't go back to a dealership for something that is totally on you..... that's the thing of buying used.. you change all fluids ASAP after the purchase. There is no way you can place this on the dealership. I know dealers can be sheisty and some are but I will stand up for one when they are wrongly accused of being a rip off.
