Default Code Reader - ScanGauge II? USB?

Hey Guys,

So I upgraded from my old 88 Dakota to a nice 2003 Ram 1500. The engine light has just popped on and I guess now is the time to buy a code reader. Initially I was going to go for a ScanGauge II, however, thinking about it I might just get some USB cable/software combination as it might work out cheaper and provide better information. Does anyone have any recommendations of cable and software?

Thanks guys!

you could get a diablosport predator. it doubles as a code reader. and its pretty badass. if not, you could go to kragens, and get the little 30 dollar blue code reader. it can hook up to your pc thru usb if you want, but i dont see why. you can just take whatever codes it throws at you and look it up on the internet.

Why do you want it to hook up to your pc? Most scanners give you the code definition along with the code...

Do Superchips also double as checking for codes?

Well, I was thinking that using a PC based solution I might get some additional data back, some real-time information might be useful. I looked at the Elmscan 5, looks great, just wondering if there are any cheaper solutions out there?
