2005 7 speaker infinity upgrades
I am taking delivery of 2005 Rumble Bee W/7 speaker infinity, I am looking for stats on the system. I might want to boost this unit. It sounds good but needs more punch. Anyone have stats on these or have done any modifications? Please send any info of comments. Thanks Dave
Not alot of options out there to 'upgrade' the stock system. The amp gets it signal thru a data link, or bus cable. The speaker are like 2.5ohm. So if you even just replace the speakers, itll sound less then the stock, due to ohm's being different. and you cant put in a new deck, and get it to work with the stock amp, you your buggered there to. If you thinking upgrade, plan on a whole system upgrade, new deck, amp, speakers. This is all from what i found when i looked into it.
I would have prefered a low end stock stereo in this so I could upgrade it with afterfactory, O well have to live with it. I might add a Powered Subwoofer for now and see how that sounds.
The Infinity system has a 240 watt amplifier. This amp is located on the passenger side, up against the firewall behind the glove compartment. It is a REAL BEAR to gain access to it. There are three speakers in the dash. The outer two speakers are 3-1/2" 4 ohm speakers. The center speaker is a 2" 3 ohm tweeter. The front doors provide the bass for the system and are single cone 6x9 speakers. The rear doors or rear panels are 5-1/4" 2-way speakers.
I have the same system on my '04 Ram Quad Cab. I recently upgraded the system by installing Infinity Reference speakers all around, leaving the center dash speaker alone. I put Infinity Reference 3002cf 3-1/2" 2-ways in the dash, Infinity Reference 6000cs 6-1/2" Components (woofers only) in the front doors, and Infinity Reference 6002si 6-1/2" 2-ways in the rear doors.
You have to match the specs of any speakers you put in, so they are close to the specs of the units I installed. Otherwise, you run the risk of blowing the speakers or the amp. The front door and rear speakers were 4 ohm also. Don't go cheap and try to use a 2-way speaker in the front doors, because it will sound like mud. The Infinity amp has a crossover that splits the frequency so the dash speakers receive the highs and the front doors get the bass.
Keep in mind, what I did on my '04, may or may not work on an '05. It's possible that DC did change the specs for '05, and if they did then it's no dice.

As far as replacing the stock system goes, i got the infinity from the factory and i wanted to replace my stock head unit with a dvd player so i changed out my head unit but i couldnt get any sound but i figured out that i had to run my remote wire to my factory amp to utilize its sound. So it is possible to change the stock head unit and be able to use the factory speakers. Plus with a new head unit the stock speakers sound so much better. So you dont have to replace all the speakers if you change the head unit. I have recently hooked up 2 - 10" Rockford P2's under my back seat all pushed by a 2000 watt Rockford amp. It sounds bad *** and with the pioneer head unit i was able to get all my highs coming from my door speakers and all the lows from the subs. So it is possible to hook up a system using the stock infininity speakers you just have to remember to get power to the factory infinity amp. The only down side is that you cant use you steering wheel mounted controls and if you want to you have to buy a $100 dollar part but i use my remote most of the time and it works just as good.
