Default handled this situation with grace...

...so, spent the weekend at lake lawn lodge in wisconsin. one way home monday afternoon, i'm heading east of 50 just a miles before lake geneva. going downhil, about 70mph, my driver side left caliper literally pops off. i'm left brakeless down a hill. threw tranny into 2, then into 1, and even then i was going like 30...so i drove on shoulder into snow and use ebrake. if i were in the city, or even on the interstate back home, i woulda rearended the **** outta someone i'm sure.

anyways, spent all day monday at a shop. they found a caliper at the NAPA in antioch, il...like 45min away. we waited, they came. wrong caliper. so, they rebuild my caliper, and they said "it holds a pressure test well, but i'd baby it back to chicago and get it changed asap". it's been two days since,a nd caliper is holding up fine =) i spent like 4 hours in that mechanic shop with my gf. the car that we were carpooling left had to go home for work reason, but we enjoyed it, and sat in the waiting room with a few beers and smoking cigarettes (because we can!...we can't in illinois).

so yea, how was your weekend?

wierd that it would just come off the rotor like that. had the brakes been changed recently?

yea...i changed the calipers like 6 or 7 months ago. the pins came out...they didn't snap out. they just...vibrated loose.

it sounded like my driveshaft dropped...it was crazy loud...lol. i finally got truck pulled over, friends were behind me like, "like, dude...your bright yellow caliper was bouncing like all hell.".

and them telling me that made me be like, "uhh...yea...i'm the one that didn't tighten them enough..haha" brake hose was completely fine too apparently. even with the caliper bouncing around dangling from it for like a 1/2 mile. but when brakes went out, i pushed one of the pistons wayyy out, and the mechanic said when he pressed it back in, it wasn't exactly as "smooth" as it should be, and to change it asap once i get home...but i still haven't and it's fine. maybe only one pistons working, but oh well. we'll see. to get a caliper i need to order one, which sucks. NO shop around here just carries them in stock...and i'm not going to the dealer, cause...i hate the dealer parts...aftermarket stuff is so much better tham oem.

but anyways, when they tried to get me a cliper, the napa in antioch, illinois said they had one, but they shipped wrong one, or wrong caliper or some ****.

the tow was $50 and the caliper repair/ghetto rebuild was only like 60bucks. that was prolly cause we sat around with the guy for hours while he was calling people, etc, and talking about how he used to live in chicago...so he let me off cheap. while we waited for the caliper, i just asked for a synthetic oil change cause i figured why not...last time i did it was like 3000 miles ago, but since then i took that 800 mile roadtrip driving my truck pretty much ***** out. the oil change cost more than the caliper repair did...
