Question WTF tire question

I just came from my local wheel and tire guy and had a long conversation about getting new tires and wheels this summer. I told him I was going to go with a 35" tire on 17's with the 2" level and he told me i couldn't do it. He said that it will rub on the fenders and i will have to bend them so that they don't rub and i said that's BS seeing as how there are several people on here who have this very setup. Is he telling the truth or is he completely crazy because to my knowledge i thought you could fit a 35x12.5x17 on a 4x4 with the 2" level but he kept swearing up and down that i could not do it regardless if i add some spacers or have the right offset on the after market wheels. Some one please tell me he is full of it because i was going to do this relatively quick once summer hits. Jonnymagnum don't you have this setup and did you have to do anything special like bend the fender.
Please set my mind at ease
Thanks

Default tire guy full of bs

I've got an 02 1500 4x4 with the front leveled and bfg mud terrains 35x12.5r17 with these wheels from summit racing p/n: CRR-3978955.

Fits perfectly with no rubbing and no other modifications.

where did you take your truck to?
I use Cooper wheel and tire down in Republic...I have their number if you want it. They will do just about anything you want to do, and they do amazing work at a very low cost.

He's full of BS.. there are quite a few guys doing exactly what you're wanting with no problems whatsoever.

As for 12.5 inch tires being "closer to 13 inches wide"??? BS

A 33/15.50R18 doesn't have a 15.5 inch footprint, nor even 15... try more like 12.

the 15.50 part of the tire size is a diagonal section width. It's a measurement from the inside edge of the rim (tire bead contact area) to the edge of the tread on the opposite side of the rim.

Not sure what brand tire you're going with, but in a Mickey Thompson MTZ Radial a 35 x 12.50 R 17 has a tread width of 9.8 inches.

This gets to be a big debate point. Most all charts say you need 4" of lift to fit 35's. But this is assuming stock wheels and full turn radius and full articulation (going up & down as far as the suspension will allow) with 100% clearance.
I find that number to be very accurate.
However, other factors come into play. A wheel with more backspacing will allow you to fit a 35" tire with less lift. Also if you can live with a little rub at full turn or scrub if you flex it off road, then again, you can get by with less lift.
You want it for looks and don't weigh it down or do much off-roading then yes, they will fit with as little as a 2 1/2" level kit...

I just called 4wheelparts for a list of prices for things I want. One of them was on a set of 35x12.5x20 and he told he can't install them without me getting a lift as well. Or I would need to do some "trimming"... not sure what that means.

I wouldn't mind lifting my truck a bit, but I don't wanna pay big $$$ for it. I guess I can live with 33's

well this guy is right and he is wrong.... if your putting different wheels on with a different back spacing then yes you can fit them, if your gonna use your stock wheels then no, you will not have the clearence between your arms and the wheels when you turn and flex, they will rub for sure.
