Default 4.7L Engine Question

Would this engine work in place of my 03 Dodge Ram 4.7? Are the trannies different or could I slap that tranny in too?

Ok, so Rams have 545RFE and Dakotas have 45RFEs. So that wouldn't work, but they'll bolt up. Would the electronics work the right way?

Ok, now I'm reading that they're the same transmission. So this would mean I can throw both of them in and hook up the ECM and PCM and it should all work the same. Help!!

the 545RFE is a 45RFE with another (unneccesary) overdrive gear. With a 4.7, I think you would be fine without that extra gear. The 45RFE was also used on the 2002 rams.

What will need to be done with electronics on this motor though? Should I be able to just hook it up to the current ECM and it will work?

In theory it should work just like that. But dodge used so many damn computers from so many places that it might not. Unfortunately, I don't think you're going to know the answer to that one until you plug it in and try it.

You might want to try getting the part number off of the controller and see if it comes up as a ram part number at all at your dealer.
