Default Ignition/Coil

I know it was a sponsor on the top before, but I was just reminded of it tonight.
Has anyone used an MSD ignition on their Ram? I don't know about any of that, so I'm not sure whether we need a coil or ignition. My brother's friend's '96 Ram needs the coils, and my brother is getting the ignition on his truck. And he doesn't know what I need, so if he doesn't know something, then I don't have any chance of being able to tell what I need for my truck.
So has anyone done this? I'd like to know any power benefits for the trucks, my brother was telling me that his truck should be getting a good power boost with the ignition. I'd like to get some more power out of my truck. Any help on this would be much appreciated.

You know I was looking at this with great interest, However I don't know if it would do any good, Don't our hemi's use coil over plugs on top there being a total of 16 of them. I don't know if MSD makes or can make an ignition system for these trucks. Even if they could I don't think they would do any good, In fact they may make things worse.

Maybe Tom, Scott or Adam can chime in on this as MSD is part of the company I beleive. (Isn't it?)

I believe that Adam is from MSD. Maybe one of them can help.
But until then, anyone else know anything about this? I'm not exactly sure what it is, but I believe that we have coils, not the ignitions. So I think we'd need the coils.

All gas vehicles have coil/s, Its just a matter of where the coil/s are located. In a most basic vehicles there is a coil that connects to a distributer that rotates with the engine, the coil sends a spark to the distributer cap just in time for a connection to be made, This connection in turn forwards the spark to the plug which in turn fires.

In the Coil-over plug setup, That distrubuter is eliminated and the coil is placed directly over the plug. The spark is computer controlled by sensors placed in the camshaft area.

The MSD system is a Multiple Spark Discharge system, It does just this it will send multiple sparks per each fire for a more complete burn, Thus increasing power. There is also a digital system that will eliminate the distributer, But does the same thing.

Now I beleive the CoilOver plugs can and do - do this w/o any upgrades, To top of that the Hemi's actually have 2 plugs a cylinder thus taking the idea one step further.

Now mind you, This is just what I think I remeber it, I am sure alot of people on these forums can and will correct me if my info is incorrect.

As a side not, MSD is owned by superchips, So scott, adam, tom all work for the same company.

I dont think they will give you any power increase. They are only really needed if the ones you have are bad, or if you go with a turbo/supercharger and need that extra spark or timing difference. if you are still interested, moesperformance sells a couple different MSD coil setups for our trucks.

I might have to look into that, or do something. I know my brother was talking about this, and he said that on the Chevy forums, they are saying that you can see quite a bit of gain by replacing the ignition on them for a more efficient burn.
