Default rack n pinion question

apparently replacing the rack and pinion in full size rams is pretty common so i guess its my turn. My local dodge dealer wants about $400 in parts alone, and i thnk thats BS. has anyone here had any experience with remanufactured racks?? found one for $200

Yeah, I just did mine. Used a remanufactured rack and pinion, no problems. Spent a hair over $600 for my local mechanic to do it, parts, labor, and alignment. Dealership wanted $950. The parts are just as good, but without the dealer markup.

I just put a reman rack in mine (from advanced auto) after core charge it was about $180. Putting it in is easy, just a little messy, the instructions said I should change the power steering filter, but I couldnt find one.
It has been in about a week and I noticed it was LEAKING! so I figured it was from one the 2 fittings I put on, nope, it was leaking from one of the fittings that was already on the rack, I tried to tighten it, but it made no difference. I'm going back to advance this week to bich, it has a lifetime warranty. If I have to put in another one I am not going to be happy...
I also noticed that the paint they slap on is kind of crappy, and both boots had a pinch in them, overall, I am not happy with my reman rack, but for the price they want new, it is worth the risk, especially with a warranty.
good luck, feel free to ask me anymore questions about install...
