I also used to use Fram as my dad did for many many years and never had any issues. In fact he still does as I just put one on his truck for him last night. He has had many many cars and trucks and never had any issues.

However, to answer your Q. The PH16 is the one called for one my 5.7 but the PH8 is 2x as big and fits fine so thats the one I always used. The same applies for most other filter brands.

 

I'm partial to K&N, mostly because of their reputation, but also because of that nut on the bottom. I've also used a lot of Fram filters with no mishaps.

I've only had to stab a screwdriver through two filters in my time. The second one I pretty much destroyed before it came off. I recently converted my Mazda Speed 3 to spin-on filters -- the filter off the B3000 pickup fits it nicely and holds about twice as much oil which can't be a bad thing. Amazon had the K&Ns for $10, so I bought a three-year supply for the two Hemis and the Mazda.
