That is because you got it done at the dealer when they re-painted your door right? That means they already had your truck inside the booth, paint already in the gun and a worker already on your truck. Most painters won't touch anything for under $100. Also, I am willing to bet they didn't pull it off to paint it. That means you have an edge that can be seen and for it to peel.
Here's why Painter's won't touch anything for under $100: They have to put 3 different types of material inside their spray guns. Primer/paint/clear. They have to thoroughly wash every time they change the material or else contamination will occur. Also, the gun always eats up fluids because you can never scrape the walls where it sticks to, so that's always a loss, minimal but still a loss especially when your not using a bunch of fluid to begin with.
Another thing. $200 with paint is a good thing. The STOCK color for my mustang ran $140 per pint for the cheaper stuff at NAPA.(Aztech Gold) They can do 1/2 pint, but even then, that means the painter has to run to the store to get 1/2 pint to spray your handles if he doesn't have it in stock.

Seriously....$200 is reasonable as long as it's quality. Otherwise I would say $125 and you provide all the materials. People think paint is super cheap and it's all the labor. For the most part, but there are some expensive freakin colors out there. I would guess total time to do your handles would be 1-1/2hrs.

ok smart guy how much you wanna bet? lol i gave them a separate grill bc i bought another planning on doing it myself. so the grill was off the truck and no peeling or whatever you were talking about. seriously i think 200 is a little to high. and paint is cheap you can get it at the dealer for like 10 bucks i heard...

Well good for you that you had one removed already because taping anything off while on a vehicle is cheesmo and causes nothing but problems.
$10?? WHAT??? My friggin' teeny tiny touch up bottle was $14.95

I'd rather leave my handles black. I like the texture. Your hand doeswn't slide all over when it's raining out. Also, paint scratches. Constatly touching paint will dull it out. Nothing i hate more than seeing those Fancy SUV's like the Escalades with the door handle looking black on a white car from keys, finger nails and just rubbing causes the dirt to hide uner the clear where the scratches are.
My hands are very rough. meaning if i take my clean just washed finger and feel the paint on my truck, I will scratch it. My hands are like 200grit...lol
Also, if you are gonna get your handles painted, I'd get your mirros done as well.
It's all preference and opinion. I want my truck to stay nice. i don't want to make it all showy so two each his own.

Sorry man. That's just what I have to charge to cover my time and cost and ship back to you. You get what you pay for. You can't get enough paint to do any more than fix scratches for $10. I am a perfectionist and I do quality work. You're paying what it cost for you to be happy with the final result. Do a Google search on the price of a pint of DuPont automotive paint.. Hell, they'll last longer than your original paint!
