Default How do you test for a plenum leak?

I have a 2002 Ram 1500 ST Sport QuadCab 4x4, 5.9Liter automatic, 82000 miles.

Not sure how to check the plenum gasket without pulling the entire intake manifold. Any help/advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Can you spray carb cleaner around the seals to see if the idle changes?

That's the way I've always known to do it.

Yep, use a spray bottle and spray away. Try to keep the spray area tight, so you can isolate where the leak is.
Hope this helps?
Al.

you can also use a little torch around the intake- just letting the gas out of the torch. see if that changes the idle. A little cleaner way than spraying starting fluid everywhere...

You'll want to pull the air hat off and look down the throttle body, look for oil pooling in the bottom of the intake. There should be a little oil film inside the intake (that's normal). Your looking for oil pooling, usually in the back corners of the intake. I found it a lot easier to actually remove the throttle body. It's ton easier and you get a better look, more room to shine a flashlight or use a little mirror to get a good look.

There is a procedure to test using vacuum guage.
