Straight Pipes???
What would happen if i just replaced my muffler with a straight pipe. I have the Hemi so would it sound good? I know someone who will do it for a $100. He wants some business.
Thanks

umm yea it gets very deep when MDS kicks in and if its at WOT it makes a funny "WHOP!" when it kicks in....but other than that it sounds really good (if you dont mind the drone at highway speeds)
And yea 100 is a lot to weld in a 16" pipe...50 would be pushing it!
Before you do it, I'm going to go ahead and tell you that I am putting a flomaster back on mine. Its fun for awhile but kind of annoying after it wears off.

I have a cutout, which when open is pretty much the same as having a straight pipe, and I think it sounds pretty good. But it’s all a matter of personal opinion, some people like loud, some not so much. But, personally, if you don’t have a Superchips or Diablosport programmer, I wouldn’t get straight pipes. Like most people on here say, it doesn’t sound good when the MDS kicks in. If you want to have straight pipes, it would be worth it to get a programmer so you can turn the MDS off, plus give you some extra power, better gas mileage, and better shifts.
I payed $20 for a 38" piece of pipe that was bent to match the offset of the muffler. Then I just clamped it in. It is pretty loud, and in my opinion, sounds like crap at high rpms (very raspy) but sounds awseome under load. It has a wicked drone at 35ish. I dont have mds either...
Do a search for "poor man's exhaust" on here, i posted a few sound clips of it a couple days ago.

I heard that trucks with the MDS you could not remove mufflers because you need the back pressure for the MDS. Is that true because I prefer straight pipes but I was going to install flowmaster since I need the back pressure for MDS
ya man. strait pipes will sound loud but you accually loose like 15 to 20 horsepower because you will then have no back pressure to equalize the intake pressure. but all you have to do is put a couple of 90degree bends in the tube and that will make it sound a little better too. but still be just as loud!
I have straits with a small baffle in the y-pipe. That cuts out the need for the "bends" or backpressure if its close enough to the cats. At least I hope, otherwise I've been rollin around with a huge loss of power and spending hundreds to get half of it back
