Hey all I started getting this Check Eingine Light P0404 EGR Gremlin in late Feb and I've noticed a lot more of you have gotten this also. I first got it rolling up and back to NC from GA, and I figured it was bad gas or something. Well the CEL stopped and was fine for about 2 weeks, then up and back to NC about two weeks later and tada CEL comes bac same P0404. I've had a new EGR valve on order from O'Rielly's and still waiting. They are only about $40 bucks there compared to the Dodge dealer at $105. Two days later the CEL goes out and has been off for the last week +.
So I'm down in Savannah and stop at the big NAPA store and try to get one of the EGR's from there just incase it starts back up again, they are on back order too. Well the guy behind the counter says He's a few of his other customers have been dealing with this type of problem and it's a carbon buildup, most likely the bad gas and the ethenol gas mix at some stations sell has broken down some of the old carbon inside the engine and its on the valve and makes it stick now. You can clean it yourself and pulls up a picture of the valve. He's done it before and says just disconnect the hose running in from the side and spray some brake cleaner into it and use the "Hi" temp Red permatex to seal it up. Hope this helps. H-
