I know this post is kinda old but I think I have the same problem.
Well it sounds like a lifter noise and don't have any power. But its sounds like the valve is hitting the piston.
It's in a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 with a 5.7 Hemi with 85,000 miles. So my real Question is what would be the easiest way to fix this?
Pull the motor, take it to a machine shop and just have them do it?
Pull the motor take the heads off and me do the work?
Or get a junk yard motor for $900? And worry it its going to happen again with that motor.
Also for me to do the work I've never pulled a dodge motor apart just chevy v8. But that's been about 9-10 years ago. And then Cummins diesel engines on a daily basis.
Tomorrow I'm going to check the compression see if that can tell me anything.
I have checked the oil no antifreeze/water in the engine oil. I also can post a link to You tube where their will be a video for the engine running.
IF that's ok with everyone?

Default Broken Valve Spring

Just last week my 04 Ram Hemi broke a valve spring and sucked a valve in. It had just turned 85,000 miles and was out of warranty. (7/70) It was suggested to me that I contact Chrysler on the problem.
Chrysler and the folks at the local dealership were great about it. On a repair that I thought would cost thousands, they covered all but $ 600.00 of it!! Maybe they did have a valve spring problem, the new ones are different than the originals, but they aren't leaving their customers stuck to foot the whole repar bill.
Thank you Chrysler. YES, I would buy another Ram Hemi when you back up your product like this. I would suggest to anyone that experiences this problem to contact Chrysler first at their 800 #.

This is your first post and you decide to resurrect an old and dead thread. Nice. [sarcasm]

And you are not going to drop a valve seat without dropping the entire valve first.

no, the valve seat becomes dislodged and rattles around and breaks distroying the head, piston and poss the cyl. this problem is differant than a valve spring breaking.

I guess i could see that if it came out of place and then the valve crushed it on its way back up.

The piston and cylinder walls were destroyed. I am trying to get dodge to help out a bit. I guess they only sell cars that last only 60K miles!!

If Chrysler doesn't want to help, you may be able to claim it on your car insurance. A friend hydrolocked his truck while playing in water and that's what he did. Cost him $500 deductable for a very large bill. But, he and his wife hadn't made a claim or had any tickets in years, so it didn't affect his rates.
