Well, it could be leaking were everbody says it is around a power steering clamp. I had the same saturated spot on that boot and it turned out that my rack and pinion was leaking, so i had to get that replaced. About the dry creaking, with your truck being as old as it is, its possibly the upper and lower ball joints. Get down there and check to see if the boots are torn. If so, they probably have no lube.

I'll almost lay money on it that the ball joints need replaced. The leak and wetness has nothing to do with the ball joints, I was just hinting that theres a second problem you have. Also on my truck my ball joint boots were NOT torn and actually still had grease in them but still were making the creaking noise. Once I disected the lower ball joint closely the top of the ball joint was dry, most likely causing the noise. Having the dealer change the ball joints is costly, most likely $400-$600 a side or even more I'm guessing. I rented a press from Advance Auto (as suggested here @ DF) and bought the ball joints from rockauto.com. After getting the deposit back from the press I only had less than $100 in parts and shipping, some head scratching and a fixed truck. If you're capable of replacing rotors on your truck I think a ball joint job isn't out of reach for you.

Hey man...I had the same problem and fixed it all last week. First the leak, well yea, just the hose clamp is all that is needed (did that) and that was fixed. The creeking (all on driver side), both my upper and lower ball joints were bad (torn boots) so I replaced them....what was the making the creeking noise on mine was the lower control arm bushings. I replaced them (30 bucks) and can now probably hear a pin drop. It was annoying as heck but that fixed it all. Hope you find what it is. Crawl underneath and have someone rock the truck and you can find the creek. Mine creeked when turning and all. So good luck!!

Mine turned 80,000 and developed a new squeak. Sounded like a bed spring over bumps or when turning the wheel while stopped. Prior to this I just had a bumping noise going down my long rough driveway. Checked and lubed all the bushing that weren’t already lubed from the P/S seeping. I have traced it to the driver’s side lower ball joint. I jacked up the truck with the tire in the air then put a long 2X6 board under the tire and pried up and I could see the movement. I lubed the suspect joint with a needle grease gun fitting and the noise is gone. Time to replace it. All the other ball joints check out fine. I was hoping it was an upper ball joint because they are easier to replace but it wasn’t.

I had a similiar problem with a clicking over bumps and creeks around turns. Turned out to be my sway bar end links....both were toasted. I replaced with Moog greasables ones and the front end dosent make any noise and tracks much better.

already had it done..lower ball joint was the culpurit, changed the front brakes, replaced a line in the ps, replaced a "worn out" sway bar and had the truck aligned last Friday.
