Default buy an 02 4x4 4.7 with a blown motor

well, I've found a regular cab, but it's got a blown motor. he's asking $4k...would it be worth it to buy it and rebuild the motor? I should be able to tear it down and do most of it myself except for the machining obviously.

anyone rebuild a 4.7? how much did it cost? thanks

If I had the money, I would just buy a brand new truck and I figured the rebuild, if I did everything besides machinging would be 3-4k. I've yet to sell my suv, so I'm tight on cash...I may just have to put getting a truck on hold completely till it sells.... :l

4K is a little steep for an 02 with a blown engine. Why did it blow? I would suspect poor maintenance or just plain old had the **** beat out of it. That means in my book that everything else in the truck is probably on its last leg as well...

So you are talking $4k for the truck with a blown engine and putting about $4k more in it.
Hell, I've seen two '03 4x4s at dealer lots in the last week were listed under $10k and were in perfect running condition.
