Default Bye Bye Drone

We've all heard it said- "Dumped exhaust doesn't drone."

I wanted to believe it, but I was always afraid that all I would end up with was a louder exhaust and more drone. I finally had enough of it and decided the drone had to go. I had nothing to lose by dumping it, because if it didn't work I was going back to stock! So I bit the bullet and welded up a dump tube. OMG! It's like a miracle! The drone is gone 100%. No drone at any rpm, not even the infamous 2k sweet spot. Not only that, but I swear I hear a little more lope from my cam. Maybe the cam part is just wishful thinking, but I swear it sounds better.

This was my first DIY welding on my exhaust. The weld was a little ugly, but no herpes growths or anything.

As long as you have a CAT they cant do a damn thing because 3 feet of extra pipe or a muffler isnt gonna do a thing for emissions... its al in the CAT.

Good on you Frog! I got rid of my drone by having the muffler fall off....

As far as I know, there is no ordinance stating how much piping must exist behind the muffler.

Definately don't do it before the cat. That's just a lot of codes and hassles. Plus, unless you have long tubes, there's no room to put it in front of the cat anyways.

I'll be making a sound clip later today. There's not much a tuner can do about drone, it has to do with harmonic resonance, not tuning.
