Default amsoil

I changed my oil today. 7 qts of amsoil 5w20 and a amsoil filter.
She runs great and the "hemi tick" seems to have been quieted.
It was a pricey oil change but I figured I would give it a shot and see how she runs after 8-10k.
I also redid my intake today and moved some things around. I just had a friend who sucked water into his hemi and totaled the motor, so because of that I decided to move the filter up a bit to avoid that disaster
If my stupid tax money would just come I could order my leveling kit and programer! ugh...

my hemi tick went away too when i switched to amsoil. i ran it up to 9 or 10k. a word of advice, don't run it up to 9-10k. i actually physically felt the truck start 'bogging' a little bit at around 8k. found out later that right around 8k amsoil starts changing viscosity.

+1 on not leaving it in too long. The reason Amsoil lasts so long is that it actually becomes thicker and thicker with prolonged heating and cooling. Not a good mix for a MDS truck where the thin viscosity is critical.
I'd change it at 6k, but 8k would be the max...

Hammer, I saw that on a test run done with AMSOIL and Mobil 1. AMSOIL's viscosity started increasing. I hadn't expected that. Hmm, I probably won't make the 1 year mark if I flush it at 8k. No matter.

here is my 25 cents worth on this subject......

The test done by that websit was by an individual and not through laboratory testing. It was also only performed in one vehicle and not repeated to determine if the results were consistant enough. This was also performed over five years ago, and is not representative of AMSOIL’s current formulations.


I would have to see more test's not just 1......

I had a 06 ram hemi and ran Amsoil 0W-30 ran up 58,000+ miles with no problem MDS worked as advertised.... Now I have a 09 ram hemi and I am running amsoil 0W20 and will change it out at 25K or 1 year..... on a side note I have used Amsoil for 20+ year in all my vehicles 16 to be exact with no issues....

I'm not saying don't go that long because of the test. I felt the difference in the oil and felt my truck start struggling a little bit, and changed the oil, long before i saw that study.

she seems to be running much better i was getting 18mpg on the hwy with the new amsoil and the c.a.i. Its a good improvement =)

It's a good oil, but it does thicken which isn't always a bad thing. The lighter oil for mds to work is more of hype. Sure if you put thicker oil in, it may slightly delay the lifters from being pumped up, but for the most part, Auto Manufacturers have been stressing specific oil weights due to the tighter clearances of the bearings. That is where thicker oil may begin to harm your engine when your rod journals aren't getting fed enough changing fluids to keep them cool! I'd say 0w-20 / 0w-30 / 5w-20 / 5w-30 are all fine for the newer engines and 10w-30 for mileage over 50kmi unless it calls for it. Thats my opinion, so no need to be so critical upon me...hehehe
