where to buy 7 pin harness
Original Message seeking info on where to buy 7 pin harness EDITED (cause i'm an idiot and found the answer 5 minutes after the post)
NEW PROBLEM!
I havent bought the trailer yet, and theres no guarantee I'm gonna get it. this one is a 6-pin plug, but others are 7-pin plugs. Whats the best way to do this?
1) Wire truck for 7 and possibly adapt to a 6-pin trailer
2) Wire truck for 6 and possibly adapt to a 7-pin trailer
Which type of trailer is more common? Thanks

The 7 to 4 pin adapters you see are used to convert DOWN from a 7 pin to a 4 pin if you have a trailer that only has a 4 pin connector and your truck has only a 7 pin connector. They don't work the other way (as you have seen). You can buy a 7 pin connector from the dealer or even Walmart or countless other places, and install it in or under your bumper. It should come with instructions, but here's the wiring in case it doesn't: http://www.etrailer.com/faq_wiring.aspx

But the Dodge OEM 7 pin harness with connecter, and use a 7 to 6 adapter.
The cheapest 7 pin harness I found on line was
http://www.autotrucktoys.com/ram/Mop...6319C1009.aspx
might be cheaper if you look harder.
Hoppy sells 7 pin to 6 pin adapters all day long for around $20
you should be able to find them at local auto parts stores or online.

I agree, the 7 pin is the most common (besides the 4 pin), and you can always adapt down, but you can't add the extra pin if it's missing from your trucks connector. Install the 7 pin, and then you can always get an adapter for anything else you end up towing. OR you can cut the 6 pin connector off the trailer and put a 7 pin on it and plug it right in.
