In Dash Navigation
Hi,
I am new here, not sure if I am using this forum right, so bear with me.
My question is about the In Dash Navigation that came with my 2007 Dodge. It works well, but I have moved to Alaska and it doesn't have coverage. I have talked to Dodge(they just got an update in Dec of 2008 that still doesn't have Alaska and Hawaii on it), Alpine(who actually makes the in dash unit) and Navteq(who makes the DVD software). I haven't got very far. Can I use some other makers DVD software to get Alaska coverage or any other ideas?????

Do you have the Navigation WITH the Infinity Sound System?
If you do, you might run into a more expensive installation as far as parts go....
Brands for Nav that I love:
Kenwood (Has Garmin Navigation)
Eclipse (overall one of the best stereos I've ever worked with, and they now use TomTom navigation software so it brings it right under the kenwoods for Navi functions)
Pioneer (Navigation isn't the best but AWESOME Stereos big fan of the AVIC series)
Alpine (Navi isn't very good, but the stereo is great!)
My recommendation on brand will depend on if you have the infinity system or not...

Matthew,
You are able to see if updates are available for your model at www.navteq.com. You can then, either order the update from the website or from the parts department at your Dodge dealer.
I hope this helps.
My Dodge has the Infinity System with an OEM Nav in the Dash.
I called Navtech, they want 150 bucks for a map update disc. Latest version is Dec. 2011 for my truck.
I might as well use that money towards a new Nav system, then I could run my iPod and phone with it.

That would be the smartest thing you could do... you will need the special adapter to install the new stereo... Metra would be my suggestion as far as brand goes.
The good thing after after market head unit with Nav and especially those with maps stored on an internal HDD is that they have updates released periodically and at no charge.

Is the unit you have different from the RB1 unit I have in my Dakota? If not you can get updated DVD's off ebay... I have a 2012 released version... I'd send you a copy, but I'm not sure if it would work.
