Did you see his last post? he was comparing 38" tires from 18" wheels that his buddy has mounted on 9" rims. There is an additional 2" of rubber for those rims for extra flex for running the 38's on such a narrow wheel. When your sidewall profile gets smaller, which in this case it's 2" smaller, you need to run a wider wheel in comparison.
i wasn't saying 38's won't have enough sidewall for offroading. Hell, I have stock 33's. That's barely enough sidewall. I was referring to rim/tire fitment is all.

ok ppl i think he looking for a show truck. well he said he doesnt want or he doesnt go offroading, then i guess he wants the truck to just look scary. well man listen to the advice of thses ppl, they know it very well. yea its gona look so gr8 and scary, but its gona be so slow and ur gona be driving it and waiting for any part of the truck to snap. i think u should use the money ur gona spend on some mods to improve the performance of the truck and lift it a 6'' lift and do other engine mods. you will have the looks and the power, and trust me u need both

Easy there, 'doggie. I said HE is not a candidate for 38s on 20's, but in general, if you got the axle for it, I like that combo, and it has plenty of sidewall flex, and yes, I agree that 9" and even 10" wheels are too skinny for a 14.5" wide tire...

That's what i was referring to. Not the actual 38" or even a 60" tall tire. it was more of the width being a problem.

For the 1500? Forget it. What are you going to turn them with, that wimpy rack and pinion? You gotta have a SFA for tires that large.

Others will disagree though...

What do I know Im a Dakota guy right? lol

The coolest set up I have seen is a 2nd gen dodge 1500 with 39x15.5x16's. It looked so sweet! My neighbor used to have a 02 F250 with a 12'' lift and was running 38x15.5x16's. It was cool... If you do it you need to get the same writing on the back window. "Lift it, Fat chicks can't jump."

+1 It's your truck, go for it.

There was a guy on here before the change over (Definflicka)?? But he had a 6" suspension with 3" body and he was running 38x15.5 with no problems.

where did he go anyway?? He had just lifted his truck, posted a few pics then he just disappeared!

Romeo, how do you like those tires?? Those are the only ones besides the Bias that come in a 36x13.5r20 so I am going to get one or the other this summer.

You guys got me all wrong...I go offroading, hell I do it a lot, but you guys say not to do it if I get 38" tires, but I'm getting a hell of a deal on them, and I'm taking it. I will do my solid axle conversion in about 1-2 months due to not enough money "yet", and I'm not going off roading b/c of my IFS, maybe a little but not much. And I have had my suspension lift on, or else I would have done my axle swap already, made that mistake, and made the mistake of buying a 1500 when I actually needed a 2500 to do my mods lol.

Also, getting 4.56 gears .

But what I really am saying is its a pavement queen, and a offroad monster, but as of right now for awhile it will be a pavement queen.
