Thumbs up My Tick Story

Hey everybody. I just wanted to share with everyone how I got rid of (or at least reduced) my truck's ticking. I am sure there are some who can relate and I am definitely sure there are some who will disagree but here goes:

First of all I have 2003 QC 4x4 with the hemi - Love this trucK! When I bought it used in '06 with about 70K(kms) I didn't really notice any engine noise in the cab except for some extremely light ticking while towing or going uphill. That didn't bother me at all.

This past winter and the previous year I was noticing that the noise in the cab was getting louder and more constant (even after the truck warmed up - which by the way takes forever!). I have used many different types of oil from conventional to cheaper synthetics to Mobil 1 to Royal Purple and have not really noticed any improvement in mpg or ticking. I have not however tried different filters besides the Fram synthetic oil filter yet.

About a month ago I was at an auto supply store and I mentioned the tick in the hemi and the guy said that it was the injectors - I laughed. Now I have read alot on this site about the sizing of the valve stem guides and I do agree that it is a problem, but i was curious about the injector thing so I started running Lucas Fuel system cleaner through the gas tank (2 bottles so far) and it has produced a tremendous reduction in the ticking I hear in the cab. Its not gone, mind you, I still hear it when the truck is started up and driven during the first few seconds but nowhere near the level it was before. Whats most surprising to me was that it remained quiet even during the recent cold weather we have been having (near 2 degrees C and lower). I'm much too cynical/realistic to believe that this has cured the tick but it sure has made my daily use of the truck more pleasant - and believe me I was ready to burn the truck if I couldn't do something about that infernal ticking!

Cheers
