Default Lost a torsion bar today....

I had one of my torsion bars fly out of my truck while driving down the road , talk about scary. I put aftermarket keys in and I must not have had the torsion bar pushed all the way back in when I let the pressure off and tightened the key. It kinda rounded out the socket where it seats about 1/3 of the way in. Should I be concerned? I pushed it all the way in this time and it seems to be staying but I'm still worried.

best bet is to take it in to a shop and have them take a gander at it if you rounded the keys chances are you need to replace again .

you could always put the stock keys back in and just tighten them up for the same lift effect

The part that rounded out was the A-arm, not the key. BTW I gained the much needed inch over stock keys but screwed up the install...... anyone thinking bout changing their own keys make sure you have the bars seated all the way in the socket or they''ll slip out. I learned the hard way.

the holes in the a-frame have rounded notches in it for the bar to set in compare the side that stayed in maybe you didnt have it set in right but didnt damage the a-frame. worth checking

You have to watch stuff like that. You are messin with allot of stored energy and has to be installed the EXACT same way you took it off. You should never walk away from a job like this and have to say to yourself "OH well thats good enough". If you put something on your vehichle that has to do with suspension, brakes or drive line and it dosent look right, then find someone who can fix it the right way. This is not a CAI or a set of LED tail lights. You are either gonna kill yourself,or worse someone else. Who did your alignment when you were finished with the install? They should have picked up on that.

Thank God you dont work on airplanes...

I hear ya Alpheus, it was a job I didn't feel comfortable attempting in the first place and should have had a shop do it. I was tight on money and figured it may have been within my skills to do it. I'm out of town right now and have not driven the truck since I reseated the bars. When I get back I have an appointment for an alignment and I'll have them check out the suspension.

Oh BTW Alpheus, I don't have any plans to do airplane work anytime soon, LOL.
