Default Really strange gas gauge problem

My 2002 Dodge Ram has a really weird problem. My gas gauge work until it gets to half a tank then stops there. I pulled the bed off, bought new fuel pump with sending unit and put new one in and still the same thing. No problems with any of the other gauges so it to me it doesn't lead me to believe there is any problem with the actual gauge/cluster. when the tank gets low and I believe the gauge is not reading right I can get a long metal rod and wiggle the wires on top of the tank and it will read right, do they make just a wiring harness for the fuel pump that can be changed out? And if so does anyone know a part #. Thanks

try turning the key on with the trip meter reset button held in. it tests all your gauges and gives them a full sweep

I am having a very similar issue with my 2002 4.7L. but its opposite. When the gas tank is full it will work sometimes then sometimes swing over to either completely empty or 1/4 tank. but once below half tank gauge works properly..
Any ideas ?

sounds like the sending unit is going bad. If it was mine I would take a look at the fuel level pid when the gauge goes down like that and if it agrees with teh gauge I'd replace the pump and sending unit
