Differential Question?
Hello, I just traded in my '05 Quad Cab Dakota last week for a 2006 4.7L RCSB Ram TRX4 Off Road. It's in great shape and only has 20k miles on it, I got it for a good price as well. Is there an easy way I can tell what gears it has and if the rear diff is limited slip? It has the towing package if that helps. Thanks, Joe.
Thanks!! There is a sticker there. It says 3.92, Anything specific I should look for to tell if it's limited slip? In bold letters it says 947 AK 3.92. I thought it ran a lot better than my Dakota even though it has the same motor, my Dakota had 3.55's so that explains a lot.
I tried this link here to get a build sheet.

Hopefully they'll send me one considering the current state of Chrysler.

I asked the dealer if they could print me out a build sheet and they said there was no way to do it. I have it in today to have some warranty work done that was part of the deal (blower motor vibrates when it's turned on high), so I asked them to have a mechanic check if it's a LSD or not. Only reason I need to know is I'm going to change the front/rear gear oil.

They should be able to do a check based upon your last 8 of the Vin. Just tell them you need to buy a replacement differential carrier and they will tell you if it's a LSD or open. If they don't wanna help you because they feel it's wasting their time, then waste their time without them knowing they are helping you....lol
Once you pull the cover off of the diff to change the fluid, you will be able to tell what it has. Also, if you jack up just one rear tire so it's just barely off the ground, get in your truck and put it in gear. If you have an open diff. The lifted tire will just spin. If you have an LSD, the truck will want to move right off the jack because the tire on the ground is what wants to spin at that point. Just keep some pressure on the brake pedal so you can get the feel of things. I would block off both front tires to make sure the truck won't come off the jack just incase.
