Default How much should it costs to change the rear differentials??

Hi everyone. This is a great forum!

I bought a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 Big Horn Edition last summer and i just now hit the 20,000 mile mark on it. My brother-in-law, who is a head manager at a car dealership recommended that i should change the rear differentials every 15,000 miles. So i called the automotive shop that is also a part of the dealership he works for. They said that it would cost $120+ per axle to change the oil in them. Does that sound like the norm? I'm not the mechanical type but i also don't liked to be taken either. So i bring the question out to the forum. Is that the going rate? $120 per axle?

thanks!!!

Yes. It's up ther in price because Synthetic fluid is used.

Very nice. Now you need to get those crappy Wrangler HP tires off there so you can drive in the rain and snow without issue's.

Cooper Zeon LTZ's. TreadDepot $146 per tire plus they have a $40 discount for buying 4 Cooper tires.

if all you are doing is fluid change, you can do that yourself for 20-30 bucks and about an hour of your time.

If you're talking about fluids, you can do both ends for $110-$140. I did the rear diff of mine for <$80 and that included the extra fluid needed because of the deeper cover.

I just had my front/rear done about a month ago and it was almost the exact price as you were quoted, within about $5 to be exact.
I was told this "must/should" be done every 15,000 miles in the rear, and 20,000 miles in the front (or vice-versa, I can't remember) in order to keep the lifetime warranty in tact. Is this true or dealership bs? Is there anything else I "must/should" do every xxx miles to keep the warranty or only the differential service??
Also....they installed the synthetic in the rear because of the LSD, but regular in the front. I asked about this and he said that's the way it's done. Is this correct or some more dealer bs?

Yep, that's about the going rate.

Incorrect. 1 qt of 75w-140 Synthetic fluid is $20. You need 3 to fill the rear diff. If you aren't using Synthetic, your not using the right fluid. It calls for Synthetic regardless of LSD or open carriers. I wouldn't run anything other than Synthetic in a full size truck anyways.
