EVAP system Large leak. Any input is appreciated
Okay just like the title says. I has the 0455 code and I have replaced my fuel cap and inspected my vacum lines and have found no cracks. Does anyone know if there is another way to check vacum lines to see if there is a crack. I have heard some stories but I am wondering if anyone has actually tried one and it worked. Thanks for the input. Oh yeah I Have Searched and tried averything in the searches and that is why I am asking again. Thanks
The Chevy's had a 3"x4"x1"-thick plastic box that sat on top of the gas tank that were notorious for going bad every couple years from water getting in between the box and cab. maybe our trucks have a similar evap sensor thing...lol I cannot remember what it was called????
i think i had the same code last night. took the truck to autozone and right when the code came up the dude when straight to the gas cap and tightend it. I had like 3 gallons or gas in the truck and he said i should fill it up, so he let me use the code reader to clear the check engine light. I got some lucas injector cleaner and filled the truck with 89 octane gas and the check engine light hasnt come back on. Glad it was simple. so i guess maybe do you have a decent amout of gas in there? hope you can figure it out.
that thick black box is the charcoal canister. its there to catch any fumes that come off the gas.
get under the truck, i think its between the gas tank and the exhaust (cant rmr). see if its rusted or if the lines to/from are cracked/loose.
if u cant figure this out, its gonna be $$. probably looking at $200+ just for the can. its pretty exposed on our trucks, so you should be able to do it yourself.
toyota charged me $400 to replace on my old cammry (refunded under extended emissions warranty), nissan charging my brother in law $800.
