Default I feel REALLY dumb - Westin Side Steps

little bit of humility for a new truck owner...

Just recently got an 05 1500 5.7L and started putting my personal touches on it. I installed the westin stainless side steps and noticed they must have given me the wrong brakets because none of the support arms lined up. I called the store and said I needed a replacement set of brackets. The steps were installed but not too sturdy to step on. I only weigh a buck fifty and I made them move with my weight. Went to pick them up yesterday and told the guy what was wrong. He came out and looked at my set up and said "the support brackets go to the outside of the truck not to the frame". Damn I feel dumb. There were tape holes that I didn't see. Installed them last night and my 310 lbs brother can jump up and down on the things.

Yea, I had that same problem with mine. To make it worse, they didn't line up too well, so I had to start the screws then tighten as those support bars bent a bit to fit.

I mistakingly ripped those holes a bit larger than needed too, but some hot glue and small square denim patches fixed that

It took me several hours and several beers to notice the taped up holes. I didn't tell anyone before.
