Question I want a mygig...please help....

Ok, at one time I found a post on here that went into great detail about installing a mygig into an older ram. I have a 2008 Ram 1500 Lone Star with the unconnect and steering wheel radio controls. I have the single disc with aux input and sat radio.

What is it that I need to make this actually happen? I know it is the slow speed bus. How do I know which unit is the slow speed? I want to be able to use the unconnect/steering wheel controls and the sat radio. It would be nice to add the back up cam as well. I know that I will need the lockpick, but what else do I really need. I could care less about the navigation.

Sorry that I am having to ask this question as I am sure that it has ben discussed into the ground, but I just can not seem to find that thread.

Thank you
Teddychk

This is a long one, I hope it makes sense. You do have to get the Lockpick, which comes with the Lockpick, wiring harness to connect your stock wires to and to connect to the Mygig, and an adapter for your AM/FM antenna. As far as the steering wheel controls, I don’t have them in my truck, but I’m pretty sure they will work. There are two different versions (not counting high and low speed), the RER is the navigation version, and there is a REN version which is a non-nav version. The RER comes with Sirius and Uconnect built in, and the REN comes with or without Sirius built in, but in both versions of the REN the Uconnect is a separate module. As far as Sirius, your current box is useless with a Mygig radio, so make sure you get a radio with the Sirius tuner built in. If you get a radio with the Sirius built in, you can use your stock Sirius antenna, but you would need an extension cable to reach the radio, otherwise if you would need to buy a new Sirius module from the dealer. As far as the backup camera, you would need to buy the A/V cable with your Lockpick. For the Uconnect, if you get the RER radio, I think Dodge has a wiring harness to allow you to use your current mic, but I’m not sure, you may need to buy a new mic, either with the Lockpick (they sell one for $25-$30, I think), or you can find ones on EBay. But if you get a REN, I think you would have to buy a new Uconnet module, but yet again I'm not sure, I didn’t have Uconnect with my truck stock, and I bought a RER radio. You would also have to either cut your current radio bezel to fit the radio, or buy the navigation bezel from the dealer or online somewhere, like EBay. As far as which vehicles have high/low speed radios, part numbers, etc. here is a good website (I know it is a Jeep site, but it has a lot of info about the Mygig)

And this is for the Lockpick

Thank you....maybe I really don't want a mygig all that bad....sounds like it might be a bigger pain in the butt than it is worth.

Eh, it's not too bad, but remember that the Mygig is a stock radio that technically is not supposed to work in pre-2009 Rams. So it does take some extra labor and parts to get it to work. But for me, it wasn't that bad, I got everthing for around $1200. Which is around the same price for an aftermarket nav radio. But, compared to the aftermarket nav radios I've seen, I like the interface and look of the Mygig better, at least as far as the navigation part is concerned. It's much more user friendly and easier to read than aftermarket versions that I've seen. Although, if you don't care for the nav part, it probably would be cheaper and easier to get an aftermarket radio. As far as just playing music, satallite radio, listening to an ipod, aftermarket radios are better than the Mygig and usually have a lot more features. And its easier to connect aftermarket speakers, subs, amps, etc.
