Default back up camera wiring?

Ok I don't like to splice into wires on my truck but I want to try out a backup camera that is going to have to have power....so here is what I am wondering.

I have the 4 flat plug under the truck that I did not even know was under there until today (I use the 7 round to 4 flat adapter). Could I not just simply go and get a 4 flat plug, wire the ground (white wire) and the Tail, License, Sidemarker,Clearance & I.D. Lamps (brown wire) and then just wire nut the other two (yellow and green)?

The 4plug is wired into the 7 plug. You just can't see it. Def don't go splicing and changing the 4-way wires to accommodate a back-up camera. Also, the Green and yellow wires are for the directionals. Go tapping into those and you'll mess up your brake lights and besides, you'll never get a constant 12v as needed.
What you can do is tap into the 7-way wires. There is a 10awg black wire that is fused and directly connected to the battery. I would tap into that with a smaller fuse before your camera.

On my Pioneer Navi.DVD unit, One single RCA wire runs power and video I thought? All the camera's I've looked at online only show an RCA cable. So, not too sure what config you are trying to accomplish? Stock Navi unit??

What I picked up was a wireless backup camera unit.

http://www.peakantifreeze.com/peak_backup_camera.html

It has the license plate camer that has to get power. There is a cable that runs from the camera to a wirless transmitter. That transmitter then sends the signal to the screen on the dash.

I was just going to get a male 4 flat, use the brown and white wires off it for the power and the ground....wire nut and tape off the other 2. I had looked at putting an inline fuse on the hot wire, but don't really know if it would be needed or not.

But the camera was broken when I took it out of the pack so it went back to the store. Still debating on what I am going to do....maybe I will just go ahead and get the mygig unit and add the camera to it.

Thanks for the input.

Okay. I see what you are doing now. i just wasn't picturing it I suppose.
Getting the trailer end of the 4-way and using that as a plug'n'play set-up. Nice idea actually. The only time I would see any issue's would be the fact that you must have your parking lights on in order to give the camera power. So you would have to turn them on during the day so you can see backing up. Nighttime, it wouldn't matter obviously.
Another issue is when you had a trailer backing up at night would the current draw be significant enough, the lights on the trailer would be effected. All of them would be effected. I really doubt that the camera could draw enough to give any problems.....It is something to look into. Otherwise. Let us know how you make out with your stealth ideas!
