05 Ram will not idle in reverse and dies when it's cold
My 05 Ram with the 5.7 will not idle when put in reverse when it's cold. This only occurs about 50% of the time, but is getting a little annoying. It has also started to die occasionally when it's cold. With the truck in gear and the brake fully applied, the steering wheel needs to be fully turned either direction and it will begin to hesitate and then die. If tension is released when it begins to hesitate it will not die. Also, once it is re-started it is fine. Any thoughts????
My ram when idiling and I turn the wheel fast in a direction. The truck will drop in RPM's a little due to the load of the powersteering pump. The truck will bump up the idile speed to whatever it is when its firsted started. Like 900 maybe? When I stop moving the wheel it'll lower the RPM's back down. So it should be kicking the idile speed up when you need to turn.
I never paid that much attention to the extra strain caused by the powersteering pump but that does make sense. I had a 2000 dakota with the 4.7 and it did the same thing, but a simple computer upgrade fixed that. I don't think there is a connection to it dying and it not idling when put in reverse??? I guess I'll find out when later this week when I drop it off at the Dodge place.
Looks like I found my answer to shifting into reverse when the truck's cold. http://dodgeram.info/tsb/2006/21-007-06.htm
