I am very new to this site as well. But have found a ton of good info. I am new here because I just got a 06 2500 with the Hemi. All I can say is WOW. I love this truck!

I have an 06 Quad Cab with the Hemi. I constantly get 12-13 MPG out of mine. It's pretty much a 50/50 mix of highway/city driving. If you're looking for good mileage, you are barking up the wrong tree!

I prefer the '04 & '05s to the '06+ 4x4s. I'm not a fan of MDS (which is on all 06+ 1500 Hemi's except Mega Cabs) by any stretch of the imagination, but of course you can disable it with a tuner.
The biggest problem I have with the 06+ 4x4s is that they use a coil over IFS as opposed to the torsion bar IFS used on the '02-'05 4x4s.
Do a search in this section, many, many people are having issues with the front end vibrating, often severely, which is known as a "death wobble". It is most often encountered with people who have lifted or even just leveled the front of their trucks, but has also been reported by people who drive theirs stock.
I have NEVER heard of the complaint by anyone with the torsion bar front ends.
IMO the '04s and '05s are functionally, the best of the 4x4 Dodge 1500s. If you can find one with reasonably low mileage and in great shape at a good price, jump on it!!!
