Default nasty ticking noise at higher rpms

my truck is an 04 hemi with about 74000 miles. Yesterday someone pulled out in front of me so naturally i just hit the gas and passed them. As i was passing them my engine was at about 3000 - 3500 rpm when i started to hear a loud ticking noise that got worse the higher the rpms went. I haven't noticed any loss in power but i can my truck make the clicking noise anytime i hit the gas and it revs up past the 3k mark. The sound is something like if you had a baseball car in your bicycles spokes.

Most likely ill be taking it to the mechanic tomorrow or monday, but i would like to know what problem i am looking at. I search the forum for topics like this and only found one thread that had a problem somewhat like mine that died out pretty fast with the only answer being possibly a lifter. My dad who doesn't know too much about engines, but more than me also guessed that it could be the lifter.

If anyone has any idea what kind of problem i may be having i appreciate any input. Also im wondering if it is safe to be driving without endangering any other parts of my engine. Since i havent lost any power and i only sounds bad when i hit the gas hard i havent seen much of a reason to stop driving. Although the noise may be able to be heard at idle i am not sure because i know the hemis naturally have a tick.

Talk to your mechanic.
