TOTM Issues - 3rd Genner's Please Read
Hello,
Many of you may know me, or know of me, for the rest of you, here's an introduction. I'm one of the administrators here at DF, and one of the longest tenured mods as well. I'm not a huge spam posting mod or member, so I dont have a gazillion posts. I am however, one who likes to thrown down and put my boot in someone's rear...
There's been alot of issues surrounding this month's TOTM contest. Many of you have been very upset about how the voting has gone, along with issues with other sections and even a few members of our mod staff. Some feel like they are being targeted. Here's your chance to voice your issues and/or complaints against fellow members/moderators.
I WARN YOU, keep it civil and respectful or I'll deepsix your post and you'll visit my size 16 steel toed boot...
There are some allegations that voting fraud or cheating has occured. Unfortunately, this is not the case. Everything was done within the rules of the contest, even if it appears to be shady. Would I agree to do such a thing? No, I would not. That's just me however. I do not find any fault with a member contacting a member of the same section and getting them to come back and post. You may not feel the same way, and that is okay. Bottom line, it was done with the letter of the rules, maybe not the spirit, but within the letter of the rules.
There is also some members feeling they have been targeted or attacked. If you feel this way, feel free to PM me here or msg me on AIM (DevilsReject97) or Yahoo! (Twistedillusions24). We will listen to any and all grievances, but please make sure you didnt egg it on either. Mods are not supposed to get in pissing matches with members, but we will give back as good as we get. Abuse of power as a moderator is more what I care about.
Some have made comments about Blown287's quick rise to mod status here at DF. Well guess what, this isnt a union. There is no seniority here..... There are 2 ways you get made a mod: The head admin makes the decision, or we as a mod group suggest someone and we vote. In this case, we had a well respected member from a few other sites join DF. His knowledge of his truck and his willingness to assist with others was part of the reason he was asked to join the mod group. I myself, became a mod in less then 90 days here, and was an admin within less then a year. Some of you seem to forget that there are other forums out there, and that many of us are on more then one. Hammer for example, came to us that way, and was made a mod not too long after joining us in a regular basis. My point is that to pick on Blown for something that he was ASKED to do by the ADMIN of this board is both ridiculous and petty. Whether you agree with it or not, it's really not a decision you get to make...
Lastly, some of you have expressed feelings of anger and feeling hurt that Hammer hasnt stood up to this. Many of you know him to be a rather down to earth blunt individual. He usually never hesitates to squash this kind of activity in the sections. This is what has made him a valued member of our mod staff and a respected/knowledgable member in most sections of DF. What you fail to realize or see is that he can't win in either scenario. If he complains about it, everyone will say he's whining or sour grapes. If he doesn't complain, you think he's not manning up or fighting back. Truth is, he's doing the stand up thing by trying to do it the right way. I'd ask that many of you think about that and remember that.
Some of you may not like how I worded things, and others may be okay with it, but guess what? This is my view point, and that is how I see it. Doesn't mean you have to agree with me, but as long as we can discuss it civilly like adults, we're good.
So, if you would like a chance to explain yourself or respond, feel free. There will be zero tolerance for name calling or bashing of any kind in this thread, and that applies to any member who posts.

very good post, Derek.
I would also like to add, I have been approached by a few people who wanted to contact old members to come back and vote. I've asked them not to do this. If you got a friend who you'd like to tell about the site, whether past member of not, I'm all for you bringing in active members. But please, no mass emails, no contacting anyone just for the purpose of a vote.
As Derek stated, this is within the letter of the rules, but I'd just rather not get any votes that way. I guess that's just how I was raised.
Also, for any of you Newbies who have been on or are approaching one month while this is still going, please DO NOT post ***** just to vote. Again, nothing in the rules saying you can't, but I personally don't think it's within the "spirit" of the rules. If you are a couple of posts away from 50, and you have something pertinent to say, fine. But I don't want to see somebody with 30 votes, go out and post 20 "+1" and "right on, nice truck" votes.
And lastly, if WE go down this month, accept it, and show some class. If you don't want to congratulate the winner, fine, but don't **** and moan about the outcome. The last thing I want to see is anyone here getting put on Post Approval or getting banned, especially over a lousy poll vote. It ain't the end of the world guys, even if I do win, I still gotta get up the next day and send out resumes looking for work.

YEP...ITS ME AGAIN! First off I just wanted to clear some things up. What I said about the DAK getting too much too soon was directed toward BLOWN but it was not, I say again, WAS NOT a personal attack on him. I have no problem what so ever with him nor do I have a problem with his truck or Dakotas in general. I also don't have a problem with him running for TOTM. If everybody will go back and read my post in the TOTM Voting thread I said that everybody on this site deserves a OTM at one time or another because this site is full of Great looking vehicles and I think Blowns is one of the best! Not exactly my style but a bad *** ride none the less. My problem was with him getting MOD so soon after becoming a member. It's my opinion that a person should need to put in his or her time on the forum for a while before getting a "position" on the forum. But thats just my opinion. i have talked with the " BIG DOG" and he has explained some things and pretty much told me to just deal with it. I still have the same opinion but I guess I am going to have to deal with it,LOL. All I was doing was voicing my opinion, I thought in a very nice way, and I am sorry that it was totally misunderstood. Some of you that know me know that I speak my mind and I will continue to do so but I think that some people shouldn't be so thin skinned. I didn't cuss him, I didn't down grade him or his truck or the Dak section at all. That to me is a "PERSONAL ATTACK" not what I said. Well I hope this has cleared some things up for the ones that got offended by my opinion. i have made allot of Friends since joining this forum and I hope to continue to do so.
Thanks,

I'm ascared to bark cause it may be too loud??...lol
Here goes. Voting to keep your same Gen. Truck winning may be a little poor sportish, but I think it's totally legit. If 3rd gen is win win win all the time and then a Dakota finishes 1st. That must mean one thing....Bad *** ride!!!
As far as the newbie becoming a Mod super quick. Who cares. If you do, your just jealous and prob don't deserve the position to begin with because it's prob only for "status quote" and no other reason. If you want respect....Earn it. I'm sure there's more behind closed doors than we see.
Duh!
So just deal with it. Whatever the reasons are... I'm sure it's tough to get Mods for certain sections depending on the type of "crowd". Who really wants to be a mod anyways? You'll have to deal with guys like myself all the friggin time.

Ohh Hammer, no need to be bashful. I know your proud of your rig and you don't care if you win or loose. You'll still get that same feeling driving it either way
