05 6 speed mausua shift trouble
Hi, I am somewhat of a newbie here. I have a 2005 1500 v-6 with 6 speed manual trans. I am having a problem shifting from 1st to 2nd and 3rd. When I shift into these gears, there is kind of grinding and it wont go into gear until the rpm's come way down. I already checked the fluid in the master and slave cylinder and they are fine. The truck only has 44,000 miles on it.Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Ray

The instructions in the manual say:
1. remove the center console w. the parking brake on and shift lever in neutral
2. remove the retaining screws for the shift lever boot and slide the lever boot up the lever
3. remove the four shift tower mounting bolts and remove the shift lever and tower from the transmission as a single assembly
4. disassemble the shift lever assembly, clean parts in solvent, blow parts dry w. compressed air, then coat all friction surfaces w. clean multi-purpose grease and reassemble.
5. be sure to tighten shift tower mounting bolts to torque listed in manual
This is just how to take it apart and clean it, but if something is broken or damage you may need to get new parts. Also are you sure the clutch is releasing completely? To check for complete clutch release run the engine w. parking brake on and hold the clutch about 1/2 inch from the floor. Shift between first and reverse several times. If the shift is rough then something is broken.
