Default cons or mods? performance chip...any bad effects?

Hey, i'm looking at getting a tuner/chip programmer for my 2500. also looking into putting in a cold air intake. this will obviously be putting out a higher horse power. are there any bad side effects from doing this? like will the engine not last as long? or are they made to do this? because i don't want to overstress my engine, but i would like to improve fuel mileage! basically is there anything bad that this might do??

You wont have any issues with a programmer as long as you do go modifying parameters that you dont know about (mainly with the DSP). The only downside of a programmer is that they make these trucks so much more fun to play with.

If you look at the stickies at the top of the page there are two links, one for the superchips and one for the diablo predator. You will find tons of info up there for both products, and both of them are great products. I have owned both.

As for which one is better for what year, that is debateable. Personally I would say get the DSP if you have an 05'+ and get the SC if you have an 04 and under UNLESS you are planning any BIG modifications to your truck performance anytime soon (like a bigger cam). The reason I say that is because as of now, the DSP only supports the 05 and up transmissions while the Superchips supports the earlier years as well. The downside with the Superchips programmer is that they can not do custom tuning which means you either have to buy another tuner or get a piggy back tune to use with it if you go into heavy modding on your truck. And while the Diablo does not support the trans for the 04' and under yet, they can do custom tuning which means that the tuner has the potential to grow with your modifcations and lets you dial in your truck for a new cam or any other major mod.

Again both of the tuners are great at what they do for your truck. I ran the performance tune on the SC for 4yrs straight and never had one issue with it, even made the MPG's go up with the 91 tune over their 87 tune. I have been running the DSP for the past month now and am loving it too, performance wise it is just plain and simply great, mpg's went up quite a bit more than what they did with the superchips tune, and it has the capability to load a custom tune for my new cam which will be going in in the next month or two.

If you have any questions about these two tuners post them in the two threads at the top of the page, alot of people have both tuners so we can answer any question you may have and probably get more replys to your questions as well. Hope that helped somewhat.
