would not do it unless you could by a pair for spares. 16.5 would be pretty hard to find in the event you get a flat far from home.

Damn! 15s? Cars use bigger tires than that!

When i had mine with no lift, I was running 305s with no rubbing.

Hmmm I have 305 50R 20's on my ram.... I would think 305 would fit on the 15 as well, but i am by no means an expert, I just tell them to go wider if they can. After 3 sets of tires I am up to the 305...

I have a 2007 Ram 2500 HD and I tried the 35x12.5x17 (equiv 315/70/17) on mine with eagle series 197 17x9 offset rims and it was a no go!!! They would rub while turning so bad, that i would have ripped my fender off. Luckily I already had a 2.5" leveling kit. Even with the leveling kit installed I had to trim a little of the fender lining. There are pics of my truck in the "post pics of your 3rd Gen" section. Hope this helps.
