Question 20" tire size advise...

FYI this is on a LOWERED truck... so here's the deal. when i put my 20's on, i want to keep the same wheel diameter or stay relatively close to what i have now 30.5" (285/60/17). i found that a 275/50/20 series tire is close @ 30.8". they are really close i.e. side-wall, radius, diameter... so im leaning toward that size. has anyone put this size tire on their ram? or even dakota? i want to see what they would look like on the truck.

Well I can tell you mine are a 275/55/r20 and are 31.50" tall. With a lot of the tire companies the actual tire height can vary from one tire to the next. Are you sure that the the 275/50/r20 is right around 30.8"?

Tire companies don't vary much at all really. Their numbers don't always reflect "actual" tire size.
I'll give you an example. Mickey Thompson has 12.6" tires and yet they call them 13" wide. They also have a 35" tire that isn't quite 35". 34.75" as my buddy measured them out to be.

Regardless of what they say they are and what they really are, they will still be very close. Within 1/2" generally. it just depends where they measure from, the outer sidewalls which isn't a proper way or measuring outer treadblock width which is correct. Mounted or unmounted tire. Mounted is correct.

a 275/50/20 will look just fine and be very close to what you are looking for. 275 is a narrow stock tire and as far as the sidewall height, I can def tell a difference from 55 series to 60 serries on the 275 Ram wheels but 50 series will be even thinner. I would say a 275/50 is a nominal middle match between the SRT's 40 series and stock Ram 60 series. Certainly no fitment issue's.

i have a set of 275/55/20's now, but theyre like an inch taller than the 17's im rockin right now. so i figure if i went down to a 50... than it would be roughly an inch difference.
