Default oil cooler upgrade

I plan on installing a larger than factory oil cooler on my 4.7 03 Ram.

Considering all of the discussions about oil type and filter type, have any of you installed an aftermarket cooler? What about oil temp gauge? Any suggestions?

thanks,
rovman

Hmmm ... no one has changed or considered changing their engine oil cooler? Any thoughts on cooler oil helps keep a cooler engine temp w/radiator? I see the talk about the expensive synthetics and high-dollar filters ... anyone changed their cooler to a larger one to better dissapate heat in the lower engine block?

Ive ran my engine and parkedc it only to go changed the oilright after I finished driving it and when I did the oil was not buring hot. Now it was fairly warm but not so much it burned me. So with that I was impressed and never thought of changing the cooler.

Thanks for the feedback Weed ... I have done mine after driving and it was quite hot. I have not installed a oil temp gauge yet so I couldn't tell you how hot. There is a lot of big iron tuning down low past the water jackets. I just installed an e-fan which is on the lower side of volume output (no heating problems so far ... the fan doesn't run but a short while during idle) but I was considering a larger oil cooler to better remove heat from the lower internal of the engine.

Ive been looking at doing the e-fan for some time but Ive got too many other projects going on right now. Im sure you can add another or bigger cooler but just remember it would take a little more oil in the system and slightly longer to pressurize the system.
